KS5 students are timetabled (where possible) to attend Life skill – Nutrition classes. These are basic cooking classes based on a course written by Jamie Oliver. There is ongoing healthy eating and nutrition messages integrated into each lesson to ensure that when the students leave home they are able to look after themselves.
The course starts with an introduction to breakfast and basic cooking methods and progresses to focus on starchy foods eg bread, pasta, rice while integrating a variety of protein sources including beef, chicken, pulses and dairy.
The highlights of the year come from the students being given the opportunity to shine during ‘show of your skills’ lessons and the MasterChef competition.
Some favorite dishes made by the 6th form students are breakfast tortilla, focaccia, macaroni cheese, spaghetti bolognese, chilli con carne, thai green curry and fajita.
