Saturday, 4th of May, was the day when the Class of 2013 finally reached the time many of them had greatly anticipated their graduation. It was held at the Regency Hotel ballroom which was filled with the family and friends of the year 11 graduates who came to cheer and support.

The ceremony consisted of two parts: formal and informal. Performances by the school choir, speeches by two graduates (Hana Faez and Khaled Al-Sabah), speeches by the principle (Mr. Vernall) and the owner of the school (Mrs. Al-Sayer) and the handing out of certificates made up the formal part of the evening. The informal part was composed of a video of the graduates and finally, the throwing of their caps.

Overall, it was a successful night and both students and guests enjoyed the evening.

Congratulations, Class of 2013!

Through the course of the year Mrs Stocks has been offering after-school music lessons. With the help of Mrs Stocks the students occasionally arrange after-school informal ‘concerts’. Anyone can come watch and the students are encouraged to get their parents to attend. The students get to show off what they have learnt while the parents watch in wonder. The concerts are usually held in the music room. There are group acts as well as solo acts to help students develop the ability to play together in a group.

On the 4th May 2013 the TEA primary school cricket team (a group of students who showed skill during the after-school practices) took part in a competition against 4 other schools. The schools taking part included TEA, BSK, TES, NES and KES. Unfortunately our team didn’t win the tournament. All the boys had an opportunity to sharpen both their batting and fielding skills in addition to bowling 5 overs each. All the students thoroughly enjoyed it and although they didn’t win, they all learnt something; helping them prepare for the next tournament.

France was simply amazing. The days we spent there were astonishing. As soon as we landed, we were off on a river cruise and then lunch at the ‘Tour Eiffel’. Later that morning we went to Chateau De Grande Romaine. It had beautiful natural surroundings. That afternoon and evening we took part in many challenging activities.

The next day we were on our way to Disneyland Paris. It was a day filled with discovery, freedom and fun.

The day after that, we had quite a long bus journey to Normandy. This is a place, everyone should see! A place of exquisite charm soaked in history. There we spent every day doing 3 different out door activities, ranging from rock climbing to abseiling and fencing. One day we visited the local market. There were many different things to look at and buy.

On the Final Night – what better way than to spend time together as the TEA family round a campfire, singing songs, sharing stories and roasting marshmallows!

This trip was breathtaking and unforgettable.

The Cyprus trip started 20th of April 2013. The 17 silver award students flew to Cyprus where they got settled in to the Souli Beach Hotel for 2 days. They then had to do their practice hike in which they walked approximately 10km. On the third day, the students were taken by bus to their starting point, the expedition started! They had 3 exciting days of trekking ahead of them. The teams were required to cook, to trek and to camp at night. On the 24th of April, the 3 teams successfully arrived back to the hotel. The students were very exhausted but overjoyed. The next day, they left Cyprus with unforgettable memories and pride.

On Wednesday the 10th of April, the sixth formers hosted a formal “Black and White Masquerade Dinner” for teachers and students in Year 11. It turned out to be a successful night and there were many things that made the occasion enjoyable, such as the Best Dressed Award for both teachers and students. The Best Dressed Award for teachers was given to Mr. Patel and Miss Ahmed. Leen El-Taki and Ahmed Nasser were voted Best Dressed Students. This year, the ‘Best Mask Award’ was introduced to go along with the masquerade theme and this was won by Barrak Al Tayyar.
There were plenty of decorations in the hall that were designed by students themselves, which showed how much effort they put in to set up this wonderful event. During the night, there were performances on the guitar and piano by talented students from the sixth form, Nabeel and Mohammed Fakhreddine. In addition, there were also some amazing performances by teachers from the music department who played instrumental versions of songs like Katy Perry’s ‘Fireworks’ and Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ on the violin and flute.
Finally, the food during the night was provided by Mais Al Ghanim. It was enjoyed by everyone and this was evident by the scarce amount of food left at the end! Even though it was the first time for a themed Black and White dinner, it turned to be an amazing night for those who attended, and a huge success for the sixth form.
