Assessment & Reporting

Assessment is an important part of our pupil’s education. It is a way of monitoring each child’s progress and setting achievable targets to aid their future learning.

In KG, baseline assessments are completed upon entry to the school. Profile assessments are carried out towards the end of each term for mathematical understanding, knowledge of colours and fine motor skill development. The progress report outlines all of the 6 areas of learning in the EYFS Curriculum: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication, Language and Literacy, Mathematical Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Creative Development, Physical Development.

In Reception half-termly assessments are carried out for Literacy and Numeracy and regular written observations are completed on all areas of the curriculum. The progress covers all areas of the curriculum,  as well as classroom behaviour and Home-School Liaison.

Key Stage 1 completes continuous assessments throughout the year for Literacy, Maths and Science. A progress report is written by the class teacher three times a year. The report outlines the following areas: Speaking and Listening, Handwriting, Writing, Reading, Numeracy, PE, Music, ICT and Classroom behaviour.

Key Stage 2 complete an assessment at the end of every topic in the following subjects: Literacy, Maths, Science, Humanities and ICT.

There are a number of occasions during the year when pupils are graded on their attainment, effort and homework in Maths, Literacy, Science and ICT. A report is sent to parents on setting out their grades to inform them about their current progress. Grades are based upon class activities, homework and any tests the children have completed.

Following the publication of reports there is an opportunity for discussion between parents and staff about pupil progress at Parent Consultation days. The Head of Primary will however arrange meetings with parents for pupils who are suspected of underperforming. This may also happen at any time during the year if it is felt to be appropriate in order to ensure early intervention where necessary.
